How to Set Up AzuraCast in Zeno Tools

AzuraCast is one of the radio automation software options available through Zeno Tools. It allows broadcasters to upload audio, create playlists, schedule programming, manage DJs, and keep a station running automatically.

If you prefer a visual guide, you can follow Zeno's video tutorial:

How to Set Up AzuraCast in Zeno Tools (Step-by-Step)

What Can You Do With AzuraCast?

With AzuraCast, you can:

  • Upload and organize music, recorded shows, station IDs, jingles, and other audio
  • Create and manage playlists
  • Schedule playlists for specific days and times
  • Edit track information and metadata
  • Monitor what is currently playing
  • Manage your station directly from your browser

AzuraCast is useful for broadcasters who need more control over their station's programming and scheduling.

Before You Start

Before setting up AzuraCast, make sure you have:

  • An active Zeno station
  • Access to your Zeno Tools account
  • Access to the Automation Software feature
  • Audio files ready to upload

Availability of AzuraCast and available storage may depend on your Zeno subscription.

Step 1: Open AzuraCast From Zeno Tools

  1. Sign in to your Zeno Tools account.
  2. Select the station you want to manage.
  3. Go to the Automation Software section.
  4. Select AzuraCast.
  5. Open the AzuraCast dashboard for your station.

Once AzuraCast opens, you can begin setting up your station's automated programming.
For a visual walkthrough of this process, refer to the Zeno AzuraCast setup video linked above.

Step 2: Get Familiar With the AzuraCast Dashboard

The AzuraCast dashboard contains the main tools used to manage your station.
Some of the most important sections include:

Media

This is where you upload and organize your audio files.

Playlists

This section allows you to create playlists and control when different types of content should play.

Streamers/DJs

This section allows you to create and manage DJ accounts for live broadcasting.

Station Dashboard

The dashboard allows you to check your station status, AutoDJ activity, and what is currently playing.

Step 3: Upload Your Audio Files

To add music, recorded programs, station IDs, jingles, or other content:

  1. Open Media.
  2. Select the option to upload files.
  3. Choose the audio files from your computer.
  4. Allow the files to finish uploading.

Once uploaded, the audio files will appear in your AzuraCast media library.

Important Uploading an audio file does not necessarily mean it will automatically play. The file should be assigned to an active playlist so AzuraCast knows when and how to use it.

Step 4: Create a Playlist

After uploading your audio, create a playlist.

  1. Open Playlists.
  2. Select the option to create a new playlist.
  3. Enter a name for the playlist.
  4. Configure how you want the playlist to operate.
  5. Save your changes.

You can create playlists for different types of programming, such as:

  • General Music Rotation
  • Morning Show
  • Afternoon Music
  • Evening Programming
  • Station IDs
  • Advertisements
  • Weekend Programming
  • News Updates
  • Recorded Shows

Having separate playlists makes it easier to organize and schedule your station.

Step 5: Add Audio Files to Your Playlist

After creating a playlist:

  1. Return to Media.
  2. Select the audio files you want to use.
  3. Assign the selected files to the appropriate playlist.
  4. Save your changes.

Once the files are assigned to an active playlist, AzuraCast can include them in your automated programming.
You can also organize your media into folders to make larger audio libraries easier to manage.

Step 6: Schedule Your Playlist

AzuraCast allows you to control when a playlist should play.
Depending on the type of programming you are creating, you may configure a playlist to play:

  • Throughout the day
  • On specific days
  • During specific hours
  • Within a particular date range
  • After a certain number of songs
  • At regular intervals

For example:
Morning Playlist
Monday–Friday
6:00 AM–10:00 AM
Afternoon Playlist
Monday–Friday
12:00 PM–5:00 PM
Weekend Programming
Saturday–Sunday

Scheduling allows you to build a complete programming lineup without manually changing playlists throughout the day.

Step 7: Check That Your Station Is Playing

After setting up your media and playlists:

  1. Return to the AzuraCast dashboard.
  2. Check the Now Playing information.
  3. Confirm that the AutoDJ or automation service is running.
  4. Open your Zeno station.
  5. Play the station and confirm that your audio is broadcasting correctly.

If the station is not playing the expected content, check whether the audio files have been assigned to an active playlist.
