# What is the difference between .mp3, .m3u, and .pls?

An **.mp3** file is an individual data file that contains the actual audio content, such as music, a podcast episode, or any other audio recording.

On the other hand, **.m3u** and **.pls** are playlist files. Think of them as guides or directories that list the URLs or locations of multiple audio files (e.g., .mp3 files) you want to play in a specific sequence.
