# Why Should I Use Organization Developer Accounts?

When creating your Apple and Google developer accounts, we strongly recommend selecting an **Organization account** whenever your app represents a radio station, company, brand, or commercial service.
Using an Organization account helps ensure that your business—not a private individual—is recognized as the owner and publisher of the app.

## Google Play: Why You Should Avoid a Personal Account

### Mandatory 14-Day Closed Test
Personal Google Play developer accounts created after November 13, 2023 must complete a closed test before an app can be released publicly.
The test must include:
* At least 12 testers
* Testers who remain opted in continuously
* A minimum testing period of 14 consecutive days
* Genuine testing and feedback about the app
After completing the test, you must apply for production access. Approval is not automatic, and Google may require additional testing if there was not enough tester participation or engagement.
This requirement can delay your Android app launch by at least 14 days.
Organization accounts are not subject to this new-personal-account testing requirement.

### Your Legal Name May Be Displayed Publicly
For a Personal account, Google displays the account holder’s verified legal name, country, and developer email address on Google Play. Additional information may be displayed if the app is monetized or if required in your region.
This means listeners may see an individual’s personal name associated with the app instead of the station or organization that owns it.
An Organization account allows the app to be associated with the verified organization.

### Business and Ownership Verification
Google instructs developers creating an account for a business or organization to choose an Organization account.
Because your custom mobile app represents your station or brand, the developer-account information should match the person or organization that owns the app, brand, and content.
Incorrect or inconsistent ownership information may cause verification problems, publishing delays, or requests for additional documentation.

## Requirements for a Google Play Organization Account
Google normally requires the following:
* A registered business or organization
* A nine-digit D‑U‑N‑S Number
* An organization name and address matching the Dun & Bradstreet record
* An organization phone number
* A working organization website
* A business email address
* Verified contact information
If you do not have a D‑U‑N‑S Number, you may request one from Dun & Bradstreet. Google advises that obtaining or verifying a D‑U‑N‑S Number can take up to 30 days, so please begin this process early.
Some registered sole proprietorships or unincorporated businesses may qualify if Google and Dun & Bradstreet can verify them as businesses. Eligibility can depend on the business’s registration, legal status, country, and D&B record.

## Apple: Individual vs. Organization Accounts
Apple does not impose Google’s mandatory 14-day closed-testing requirement on Individual developer accounts.
However, the account type still affects your app’s ownership and public seller name.

### Individual Accounts
If you enroll as an individual or sole proprietor:
* Your personal legal name will appear as the app’s seller on the App Store.
* You cannot use a station name, DBA, trade name, or brand name as your personal name.
* Apple may request proof that you own or are authorized to use the app’s name, brand, and content.

### Organization Accounts
With an Organization account, the organization’s verified legal name appears as the app’s seller.
Apple requires:
* A recognized legal entity that can enter into contracts
* A D‑U‑N‑S Number associated with that legal entity
* A publicly available and functional organization website
* A work email address associated with the organization’s domain
* Someone with legal authority to enroll the organization
Apple does not accept a DBA, fictitious business name, trade name, branch, sole proprietorship, or single-person business as an Organization account unless it is recognized as an eligible legal entity.
Sole proprietors and single-person businesses are generally required to enroll as individuals, which means the owner’s personal legal name will appear as the seller.

## What If I Don’t Have a Registered Legal Entity?

### For Google Play
Depending on your country and business status, you may be able to register a sole proprietorship or other recognized business and obtain a D‑U‑N‑S Number.
You should confirm that your business information is eligible and correctly listed with Dun & Bradstreet before creating your Google Play Organization account.
### For Apple
Registering only a DBA or trade name is not sufficient for an Apple Organization account. Your organization must be recognized as a legal entity.
If you are a sole proprietor or single-person business, Apple will generally require you to enroll as an individual, and your personal legal name will appear as the seller.

## What Happens If You Use a Personal Account?
Depending on the platform, you may experience:
* A minimum 14-day Android testing period
* Additional time while Google reviews your production-access request
* Your personal legal name appearing publicly
* Difficulty matching the app’s publisher with your station or brand
* Requests for proof of brand or content ownership
* Additional work if the account must be changed or the app transferred later

## Our Recommendation
Create your developer accounts under the legal entity that owns your station, brand, and content whenever possible.
Before creating either account, make sure that:
* You select the correct account type.
* Your legal name and address match your official records.
* Your D‑U‑N‑S information is accurate.
* Your website and business email address are active.
* The account belongs to the station or organization—not an employee, developer, or unrelated third party.
